The Nineteenth Alaska State Legislature honors Heartbeat Alaska for being the first Alaska Native owned and
operated weekly televised news program and for the professional product Heartbeat Alaska produces.
Heartbeat Alaska was established in October 1992, and has successfully grown to be credited internationally as an
interesting and informative program. In February 1996, the Outdoor Cable Company chose Heartbeat Alaska as
part of its regular programming. Heartbeat Alaska has been televised in Northern Canada, Greenland, Russia,
Alaska, and the Lower 48 states. It is due to be aired over cable in London and aired in the Orient. Heartbeat
Alaska has an estimated 4,500,000 viewers.
The accomplishments of Heartbeat Alaska are tremendous. Heartbeat Alaska has made an overwhelming impact in
spite using second-hand producing equipment. Alaskans from small villages create home videos used by Heartbeat
Alaska to inform others of Alaska Native events. The few staff members of Heartbeat Alaska edit videos, camera
shots, music, voice-overs, and editorials.
Heartbeat Alaska has been praised by many national and international magazines and newspapers, including People
magazine, the national Canadian magazine Indian Runner, Anchorage Daily News, L.A. times and the Seattle
Times. Heartbeat Alaska has been featured on National Public Radio during Weekend Edition.
Heartbeat Alaska is an inspiration to all Alaskans living in rural or urban areas. Heartbeat Alaska is credited in the
state, in the nation, and throughout the world for educating, informing and entertaining their audience. Heartbeat
Alaska accomplished this with little funding, a small but diligent staff, and second-hand machinery.
The Nineteenth Alaska State Legislature commends Heartbeat Alaska and Jeanie Greene, the host, reporter. and
producer of Heartbeat Alaska, for its inspiration to Alaskans and successfully education of others about Alaska.
